2010 ~ VIDALIA MAIN STREET WELCOMES YOU!
We are a State & National Main Street City, non-profit organization dedicated to maintaining downtown Vidalia.
VIDALIA MAIN STREET - Downtown Vidalia Association is a membership structured organization with the focus to carry out our VISION, MISSION and GOALS. Economic Development and historic preservation is a resource for attracting retail and tourism.
The support of Membership, city government and the Toombs County Board of Commissioners is the stability of the organization.
Our Vision:
Historic Downtown Vidalia takes its places as a vibrant center of community activity. People who live, work and visit here appreciate its rich heritage, delight in its places of business and feel the heartbeat of Vidalia-Toombs County's Future.
Our Mission:
- Planned economic development, historic preservation, and promotions-oriented efforts to develop existing resources, promote growth, and bring life and prosperity to downtown Vidalia through increased activity and participation of its members.
- To increase harmony and unity in downtown Vidalia, by coordinating efforts of individual groups on the federal, state, and local levels.
- We recognize that downtown Vidalia is the key to preserving Vidalia's heritage and that it serves as the concerted, organized voice for accomplishing specific goals for the betterment of the community.
Our Goals:
- Lighting downtown, in partnership with the City of Vidalia.
- Consistent Membership drives with benefit package for members.
- Design a “Welcome to Vidalia” bag for tour groups, wedding party guests and “new comers” to our area. Merchants provide brochures and/or marketing items.
- Design and erect “historic signs” to place on local highways inviting people to Visit Historic Downtown Vidalia.
- Design and erect street block directional way-finding signs containing businesses by name.
- Another ISTEA “streetscape” grant has been awarded The City of Vidalia — to take place on North Main/McIntosh Streets.
- To research and create an appropriate status for Main Street Vidalia, such as a 501-C3.or C6 to best benefit future growth and stability of the historic district.
